The i-iv-V7-i progression uses a harmonic minor V7 (E7 with G# instead of G natural), giving the dominant chord a leading tone that pulls hard back to the tonic. You can hear this G#3 in the walking bass (bar 3: E3–G#3–B3–D4) and in the electric piano melody which approaches it chromatically (F#4–G#4 in bars 3 and 7). The shell voicing on E7 is G#3+D4 — the tritone substitution that defines jazz dominant harmony.
