The ii-V-I-vi progression starting on Dm7 (Dm7–G7–Cmaj7–Am7) is harmonically in C major but emotionally anchored on D minor: the loop always comes back to Dm7, keeping the tonal center ambiguous. Electric piano and walking bass are the only sound you need at this hour.
